Welcome to my website!
I hope you enjoy your visit.
I have always been passionate about horses. I left school with the sole aim of being around them and learning all I could about them. So at 16 I left home and went to live and work at an animal sanctuary with around 30 equines.
The elderly owner was often ill so I was left in charge a lot of the time. Being thrown in at the deep end set me in good stead for the future, teaching me not to panic, to read situations and then find a solution based on the facts.
From there I went into hunt grooming which I loved. I did a season as hunt groom and then went to work for the hunt chairman and his family. They were wonderful to me, putting me through my HGV and trailer tests, and paying for as many lessons as I wished to have.
They also encouraged me to have a go at eventing which I did successfully and became totally hooked.
At 23 it was time for a change of scenery and I went to North Carolina in the USA for the summer to work for a show jumping dealer.
He transformed my riding with intensive lessons every day on different horses and I was given the chance to compete in show jumping competitions.
From there I took the position of stud groom for the Bedale Hunt. I enjoyed it immensely as I adored taking care of the horses, keeping them sound, fit and well. I thrived under the pressure of a very busy hunting year.
In the meantime, I always had two horses of my own to produce and would take in the odd 'problem' horse or one to be broken, re-schooled or sold. These became more and more frequent and so in the end I decided to leave hunt service and specialise in schooling.
I have happily run my own yard now for 6 years and recently married my lovely non-horsey but converted husband Paul. We have settled at Thornton Lodge Farm near Easingwold, York.
